Chris Pine takes role in The Line

Chris Pine is in talks to star in gritty thriller The Line.

The Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit star is said to be attached to play a patrol agent in the film, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

After finding himself on a downward spiral when he loses his wife and son, Chris' character unexpectedly becomes the protector of a 10-year-old boy who has been left an orphan following a shoot-out with a criminal cartel. The pair then have to go on the run.

David Gordon Green, who previously directed Pineapple Express, The Sitter and Prince Avalanche, will direct The Line, which has been written by The Walking Dead's writer-producer Sang Kyu Kim.

Chris - who starred as Captain James T Kirk in JJ Abrams' Star Trek films - will next be seen in Disney's musical Into The Woods alongside Johnny Depp, Meryl Streep and James Corden.

The 33-year-old has also wrapped production on Horrible Bosses 2, in which he plays one of the bosses.
