Christian Bale hangs up Batman cape
Christian Bale has ruled himself out of playing Batman in the Justice League film.
The American Psycho actor played Bruce Wayne, aka the Caped Crusade, in Christopher Nolan's Dark Knight trilogy, which culminated with The Dark Knight Rises last year.
Warner Bros has begun production on a Justice League movie, a DC Comics Avengers-style ensemble film with superheroes such as Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman and Green Lantern uniting to fight evil powers. Nolan had also been linked to direct the project
Asked about reprising his Batman role, Christian told Entertainment Weekly: "We were incredibly fortunate to get to make three [Batman films]. That's enough. Let's not get greedy.
"Chris [Nolan] always said he wanted to make it one film at a time. And we ended up sitting there looking at each other, saying 'We're about to make the third.' We never really knew if we were going to get to be there, but if that was how it was going to be, this was where it should end as well.
"I have no information, no knowledge about anything. I've literally not had a conversation with a living soul. I understand that they may be making a Justice League movie, that's it."
And the 39-year-old actor said he is happy to pass the role on to a new actor.
"It's a torch that should be handed from one actor to another," he said. "So I enjoy looking forward to what somebody else will come up with."
At the end of The Dark Knight Rises, Bruce Wayne passed on the Batman torch to police office Robin John Blake, played by Joseph Gordon-Levitt. But Joseph has already denied that he will play Batman in the Justice League movie.
