Jon M Chu is tipped to direct the Now You See Me follow-up.
The filmmaker is currently the frontrunner to take the reins on the sequel, reported The Wrap.
He would be taking over from Louis Leterrier, who directed the 2013 comedy drama about magicians but is not returning for Now You See Me 2.
Isla Fisher, Jesse Eisenberg and Woody Harrelson are all thought to be reprising their roles. Mark Ruffalo and Dave Franco will also be back.
Chu's previous directorial efforts include two of the Step Up movies and Justin Bieber's concert films Never Say Never and Believe.
He is also making the upcoming big screen adaptation of 80s television show Jem And The Holograms.
