Cillian Murphy has signed up to star alongside Chris Hemsworth in the film In The Heart Of The Sea.

The Irish actor will play Matthew Joy, second mate on the whale ship Essex, Deadline reported.

A Beautiful Mind filmmaker Ron Howard is directing the adaptation of the Nathaniel Philbrick book.

In the film, Joy and first mate Owen Chase (Chris) convince first time Captain Pollard (Benjamin Walker) to sail to South America after an enraged sperm whale rams and sinks the Essex, leaving 21 crew members adrift in small boats.

The film shoot beings around London in mid-September.

Inception actor Cillian is currently working with Johnny Depp on Transcendence and is set to star in Peak Blinders, a BBC miniseries about gangs in 1920s Birmingham.
