Clarke in talks for Terminator role

Jason Clarke is "in early talks" to play John Connor in the Terminator reboot.

The Zero Dark Thirty star is said to be in negotiations to portray the leader of the rebellion against the Skynet artificial intelligence system intent on wiping out the human race, reported Deadline.

Game Of Thrones actress Emilia Clarke is still thought to be the frontrunner to play Sarah Connor, with Brie Larson also in the frame for the latest adaptation, which will be directed by Thor: The Dark World director Alan Taylor.

Arnold Schwarzenegger is expected to reprise his signature cyborg role in the film, which will involve time travel into the future, and is due for release in July 2015.

Jason, who starred in Baz Luhrmann's The Great Gatsby and White House Down, is part of the ensemble cast of Baltasar Kormakur's Everest, alongside Jake Gyllenhaal and Josh Brolin.

The Australian actor will also be in the upcoming sequel, Dawn Of The Planet Of The Apes, and thriller Child 44 with Tom Hardy and Noomi Rapace.
