Clunes: I'm proud of my singing

Martin Clunes has confessed he was terrified of having to sing in new film Nativity 3: Dude, Where's My Donkey?!

The Doc Martin star plays a teacher in the latest instalment of the hit Christmas family franchise, who loses his memory and is taken on a wild adventure by his class building up to a big song.

Martin revealed: "I was so scared of it, but once I got into it, doing the song at the end was a blast."

"I thought 'OK I've got a song, I'd better learn it.' Which was hard because I'm not a singer - but I was quite proud of it come the end."

The Men Behaving Badly star isn't expecting to get mobbed by children after his role in the movie, as he doesn't think he can compete with the crazy class assistant Mr Poppy, played by Marc Wootton in all three films.

Martin said: "Children just like Mr Poppy - I'm something for the mums I think!"

The Nativity films, written and directed by Debbie Isitt, are improvised - and Martin admitted he is a convert.

He said: "I loved it. It's difficult and it's scary and I'm not terribly good at it, but once you get going with it you just have to do it, it's great. You don't have to learn anything!"
