Coens miss out on award nomination

Joel and Ethan Coen have failed to land a Directors Guild nomination

The Coen brothers have failed to make the shortlist for this year's Directors Guild of America award.

The True Grit siblings and 127 Hours director Danny Boyle missed out on a coveted nomination for the prize, seen as one of the best forecasts for the Oscars.

Among those who did make the final cut were Tom Hooper for The King's Speech, David Fincher for The Social Network and Black Swan director Darren Aronofsky.

Christopher Nolan was nominated for the sci-fi blockbuster Inception, and David O. Russell got a nod for the boxing drama The Fighter.

The awards are back to an all-male lineup after Kathryn Bigelow became the first woman to win the guild and Oscar directing prizes a year ago for The Hurt Locker.

Only six times in the 62-year history of the Directors Guild awards has the winner failed to take home the Academy Award for best director.

The winner will be announced at a ceremony in Hollywood on January 29.

This isn't a good time to make travel plans. Weather conditions and work responsibilities have a way of wreaking havoc with your schedule. Wait another few days before putting down a hefty deposit. Working behind the scenes will yield significant rewards. If someone asks you to serve as their assistant, go ahead and accept. The pay will be excellent and there will be a lot of fringe benefits, too. Don't talk about a neighbour's private life in mixed company.More
