Cole, Sheehan for The Messenger

Lily Cole and Robert Sheehan are to star in supernatural thriller The Messenger.

The 26-year-old model will join the Mortal Instruments and Misfits actor in the British cast, alongside Jack Fox, David O'Hara and Tamzin Merchant.

Written by Andrew Kirk and directed by Bafta and Emmy-winning director David Blair, The Messenger - which tells the story of a troubled man who sees ghosts - has started principal photography. It will be shot on location in the UK's Peak District.

Filmmaker David said: "I have been around the project for quite a time, and it certainly feels good right now that all that painstaking analysis and work on the screenplay is bearing fruit. "

Producer Terry Stone added: "The Sixth Sense was one of my favourite films and when I first read The Messenger I was reminded of that film. When a screenplay makes the hairs on the back of your neck stand up you know you have to get it made."

The Messenger marks the latest big-screen role for Lily, who previously appeared in Snow White And The Huntsman, The Zero Theorem, The Imaginarium Of Doctor Parnassus and St Trinians.
