Cooper is Spider-Man's new catch

Chris Cooper will play Norman Osborn in the Spider-Man sequel

Chris Cooper has been cast in in the next Spider-Man film.

The Oscar winner has signed up to play Norman Osborn, who starts out as a mentor to the superhero before he turns into his nemesis the Green Goblin, in The Amazing Spider-Man 2, The Holllywood Reporter's Heat Vision blog reported.

Directed by Marc Webb, the film sees British actor Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone reprise their roles as the superhero and his love interest.

Jamie Foxx and Paul Giamatti have also been cast as villains in the sequel, due out next year.

Heat Vision blog said it was not yet known whether Chris' character will make his villainous turn in this film, due out next year, or in a sequel.

Chris won a best supporting actor Oscar in 2003 for Adaptation and will next be seen in August: Osage County.
