Cumberbatch in line for Everest?
Benedict Cumberbatch is said to be at the peak of the list of actors in the running to play Everest conqueror George Mallory.
Tom Hardy recently had to quit the role, a Sony project about the Brit climber's attempts to scale the mountain, because of a change in schedules and Deadline has reported that Benedict is the front runner to replace him.
Everest tells the story of George's rivalry with Australian climber George Finch, and the Brit's last attempt in 1924 which many believe he completed before dying on the way back down. His body remained on the mountain until 1999.
Other actors who are thought to be being considered for both parts include Joel Kinnaman, James McAvoy, Tom Hiddleston, Henry Cavill, Luke Evans, Dan Stevens, Matthew Goode, and Jim Sturgess.
There is also another film called Everest in development at the moment, starring Josh Brolin, John Hawkes, Jake Gyllenhaal and Jason Clarke, which is about a disastrous 1996 Everest expedition where eight climbers died in a blinding storm.
That version is trying to bring in a new co-financier after the original one was unable to agree a budget cap with Working Title and Universal.
