Richard Curtis has claimed film awards are prejudiced against romantic comedies.
The British screenwriter and director has made a fortune from hit films such as Four Weddings And A Funeral, Notting Hill, Bridget Jones' Diary and Love Actually.
Curtis told The Daily Telegraph: "There is prejudice against comedy movies... which is why they don't get Oscars and things like that."
The Blackadder co-creator has in fact notched up several award nominations for his films, including the Audience Award For Most Popular Film for Notting Hill at the 2000 Baftas. But it seems he has his heart set on an Academy Award.
He added: "They just don't win these awards. Bridesmaids, I think, got nominated for a screen award, but, no. Woody Allen only started getting nominated for Oscars when he got slightly less funny."
