Damon: Douglas deserves the Emmy

Michael Douglas should win an Emmy, his Behind The Candelabra co-star Matt Damon has said.

The two stars are up against each other for outstanding lead actor in a miniseries or movie for their performances in Steven Soderbergh's musical biopic, but Matt is more than happy to see Michael take home the gong.

"[I want] Michael [to win]. Really. I swear to you! I really want him to [win]," the Bourne actor told Access Hollywood.

Michael has won universal acclaim and praise for his portrayal of flamboyant entertainer Liberace in the film, which came after his battle with throat cancer. Matt played his lover Scott Thorson.

"It's just such a great story and given his recent years, to come back from [cancer] and to whoop cancer's ass, and then do that? He should have some kind of trophy, right?!" Matt added.

Matt, who next stars in sci-fi film Elysium alongside Jodie Foster, also joked that he moved from New York to Los Angeles to be closer to his good friend Ben Affleck.

"[We're on] the same street. I tried to get him to come back east for years and finally I just gave up and I was like, 'All right'," he said.
