Dano is up for Beach Boys part

Paul Dano is set to play Beach Boy Brian Wilson

Paul Dano is obviously feeling some Good Vibrations - as he is to play Beach Boys frontman Brian Wilson.

The Little Miss Sunshine star, who leads his own band Mook, is set to portray the legendary musician in his early years in the upcoming biopic Love And Mercy, directed by Oscar-winning producer Bill Pohlad, reported Collider.

Brian gave his approval in a statement, saying: "I am thrilled that Paul Dano has signed on to play me during one of my most creative explosions and most fulfilling musical times in my career."

"I still can't believe how cool it is that my life will be portrayed on the big screen and to have Bill Pohlad as the captain of the Sloop John B is amazing! It just makes me feel so humble," he added.

Another actor is being hunted to play Brian in his later years.

Academy Award-winning composer Atticus Ross (The Social Network) is in talks to work on the sound design of the film and the soundtrack, which will incorporate Brian's music.

Love And Mercy, written by Oren Moverman, will cover several decades of the singer's life and take an "unconventional look" at his "artistic genius, his profound struggles, and the love that kept him alive".

Production is expected to begin during the summer.

Paul, last seen starring opposite his real-life girlfriend Zoe Kazan in Ruby Sparks, will next be in Steve McQueen's Twelve Years A Slave. The 28-year-old is currently filming Prisoners with Hugh Jackman and Jake Gyllenhaal.
