Dates set for Star Wars: Episode 7

Star Wars: Episode VII is aiming to start production in January 21, 2014, in time for a release in Christmas 2015.

A source told the Los Angeles Times' Latino Review blog that the start date has been set for the upcoming instalment, which will be directed by JJ Abrams.

The Star Trek filmmaker previously said shooting would begin in 2014, saying: "Most likely we are going to be moving to London at the end of the year for the Star Wars movie."

Producer Bryan Burk said they were aiming to kick things off in January 2014, but were trying to coordinate schedules and get the script ready.

The franchise's original stars - Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher and Mark Hamill - are reported to be returning for the next film, with the trio are said to have been in talks.

Ewan McGregor, who played Obi-Wan Kenobi in the newer Star Wars films, is also rumoured to return as a Force Ghost.
