Denzel: Script 'made me laugh'

Denzel Washington was looking for a lighter role

Denzel Washington has said he wanted to move away from heavier roles with his new action comedy 2 Guns.

The Malcolm X, Training Day, Cry Freedom and Flight actor stars alongside Mark Wahlberg in the movie.

He said: "I was looking for a departure from heavier roles and when I read this script it really made me laugh."

The actors play a pair of undercover agents brought together to infiltrate a Mexican drug cartel and recover millions of dollars in the film.

"Mark is better with the gun than me. When he shot the chickens in the film, he was the business," he said of a scene in which Mark's character shoots three birds in the head.

"He had to snatch the gun from another guy, I didn't really have any gun play. And I noticed Mark had a little 9mm gun and was always smooth with it whereas I had a big 44mm gun and was like, 'Oh I've got to lift that gun up'," the double Oscar-winner added.

:: 2 Guns opens in cinemas on Friday, August 16.

Virgo:

It's difficult to deal with a highly competitive colleague. Every time you submit work, they try to find ways to outperform you. Although you have no interest in pitting your talent against theirs, this other person thinks very differently. Ignoring them won't be possible. A good way to disarm this pest is to invite them out for coffee. Describe what you've observed and ask for a truce. Irrational people are often thrown off balance when their behaviour is addressed in a direct manner.More
