Johnny Depp was director Wally Pfister's first choice for Transcendence, he has revealed.
The cinematographer, who is making his feature directorial debut with the sci-fi thriller, said he knew he wanted the Hollywood heartthrob for the part of scientist Dr Will Caster, who has his brain uploaded into a computer.
Wally told Metro he met Johnny while shooting a video for Sir Paul McCartney's song Queenie Eye.
'I was like, 'I'd kill to have Johnny Depp in the movie'," he said.
Wally also told how he has always wanted to direct a film, but that his dream gathered pace after he won an Oscar for best cinematographer for Inception.
He explained: "It was an incredible validation of my work. But also it was the point where I thought, 'OK, I've done it now. I've accomplished everything I want to in cinematography and now it's time to try something else'."
