Dern: I want directors to push me

Laura Dern has revealed she likes being challenged by filmmakers.

The Golden Globe-winning actress' recent films include The Fault In Our Stars and Wild, where she worked with directors Josh Boone and Jean-Marc Vallee.

"I like to be pushed toward a braver place than I've done before. I love directors who will accept nothing less than total honesty from actors," she told Variety.

"And hopefully someone who creates a very collaborative environment, from every crew member to every cast member."

Laura, the daughter of Oscar-nominated stars Bruce Dern and Diane Ladd, is generating her own Oscar buzz with her role as Cheryl Strayed's mother Barbara 'Bobbi' Grey in Wild. Reese Witherspoon plays Cheryl in the biopic.

Her father received a nomination for best actor from the Academy for his performance in Nebraska in 2013.

"It always feels good to have the work you do be appreciated. I don't take that privilege lightly," she said. "But it's an unparalleled feeling to see your 78-year-old parent be so honoured for their work, and feel so good. It was gorgeous."
