Derrickson picked for Dr Strange

Director Scott Derrickson has apparently confirmed he will direct the Doctor Strange movie.

The filmmaker - whose previous movies include The Exorcism Of Emily Rose, Sinister and Deliver Us From Evil - was reported to be Marvel's top choice to take the superhero comic book character to the big screen.

While some websites suggested the deal had yet to be officially signed, Scott has now appeared to confirm the news on Twitter.

The director shared a picture of himself peeking over a Marvel comic book about the character which covers most of his face, and wrote: "My next movie will be STRANGE."

The character first appeared in 1963 and is a neurosurgeon who serves as the Sorcerer Supreme protecting Earth against threats.

It hasn't been revealed who will take on the title role but an announcement is expected within the coming weeks.
