Despicable Me 2 tops Xmas DVD list

Steve Carell and Miranda Cosgrove with the minions from their movie Despicable Me 2

Despicable Me 2 is the DVD people most want to find under their tree this Christmas.

A survey by the British Video Association reveals 37 per cent of adults in the UK will buy a Blu-ray Disc or DVD as a gift this year.

While 3D animation Despicable Me 2, featuring the voice of Steve Carell and a legion of adorable minions, topped the most wanted list, when women and men were surveyed separately, it was revealed men would rather have The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey in their stocking.

The final series of hit show Breaking Bad was the third most coveted DVD, with animation Monsters University and musical Les Miserables completing the top five.

Will Ferrell's Christmas comedy Elf made it onto the Top 10 Most Wanted list, despite being released 10 years ago.

And while women would like The Hunger Games, The Great Gatsby and the new series of Downton Abbey for Christmas, men would prefer sci-fi films like Star Trek Into Darkness and Doctor Who - The Day Of The Doctor and superhero movies Man Of Steel, The Wolverine and Iron Man 3.

Ladies' top choice for comedy was Mrs Brown's Boys Live Tour: Mrs Brown Rides Again, while men opted for Alan Partridge: Alpha Papa.
