Despicable Me proves worldwide hit

Russell Brand lends his voice to Despicable Me

Despicable Me has been taking the box office by storm in 23 countries, earning an impressive 19.1 million dollars and on its way to a 500 million dollar worldwide gross.

The animated 3D film - featuring voiceovers from Steve Carell, Russell Brand and Jason Segel - was followed by Paranormal Activity in the US box office chart.

The horror took 13.9 million dollars, while Saw 3D was just one million dollars behind with 12.9 million, but in 10 fewer countries.

The Social Network was at number four, followed by Little White Lies and Red.

The Town, Life As We Know It, Jackass 3D, Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps and Eat Pray Love also featured in the top 20.
