DeVito: I'm on top of the world

Danny DeVito has said he's "in heaven" career-wise.

The Taxi star's latest incarnation is the title character in Dr Seuss's The Lorax, a role which he loved playing.

And the 67-year-old revealed: "I have a ball from the moment I get up until the moment I go to bed, and I think I dream funny too."

He added: "I'm always looking for crazy things to do and I always like to be involved with a bunch of people that are creative and inventive. You get into a spot where you've done so many fun things, you think: 'What's out there that I want to do?' But right now I'm in heaven."

Based on the classic tale of a forest guardian who shares the enduring power of hope, the 3D animation follows the journey of a 12-year-old boy (voiced by Zac Efron) searching for a real Truffula Tree.

To find it, he must uncover the story of the Lorax, the acerbic yet charming character who fights to protect his world in a story that highlights the importance of balance between nature and progress.

Danny is delighted the film has already scored the number one spot at the US box office.

He said: "It's really nice to have a couple of weekends under your belt at number one. The Lorax deserves it though. It's really colourful, beautiful, kids are digging it, adults are digging it. We owe it all to Dr Seuss and his vision."

The father-of-three (his wife of 30 years is the former Cheers actress Rhea Perlman) is a lifelong fan of Dr Seuss's books. "One of the great things about having kids is you get to re-live all the stuff you either did or missed as a kid," he said.

:: Dr Seuss's The Lorax is released in cinemas on Friday, July 27.
