Michelle Dockery is building on her Downton Abbey success with a part in a new Hollywood film.

The English actress - who plays Lady Mary Crawley in the ITV period drama - has been cast in indie film Queen Of Earth, according to the Hollywood Reporter.

She is joining Mad Men's Elisabeth Moss in the psychological thriller about two best friends who move into a beach house for a while to escape the hustle and bustle of everyday life.

The site said of the plot: "Although they grew up as best friends, they soon realise how disconnected from each other they have become, allowing their suspicions to bleed into reality."

The film was written and will be directed by Alex Ross Perry.

Michelle, 32, appeared in Liam Neeson's action film Non-Stop this year and has also been cast in upcoming drama Selfless, which will also star Ryan Reynolds and Sir Ben Kingsley.
