Downton Abbey's Sybil is a rebel
Downton Abbey's Jessica Brown Findlay has said the rebellious teenager she plays in her new film Albatross has a lot in common with Lady Sybil.
In Albatross she plays Emelia, an aspiring writer who beings an affair with her friend's father, while Downton's Lady Sybil has shunned glamorous gowns and parties to become a nurse.
Jessica revealed: "You know there are elements about them that are so similar. They're both rebellious.
"But Sybil is logically rebellious and has a motive and she thinks through the consequences, where as Emelia doesn't think through the consequences at all. It's only afterwards that she realises what's wrong. And she only has to think about herself or at least she thinks she does, whereas Sybil thinks about how her actions will effect everyone.
"But I think it would be interesting if the two met. I think they'd probably get on."
Jessica stars alongside Felicity Jones in the new film, released on Friday October 14th.
For her auditions with director Niall MacCormick, she pretended to be just like the stroppy teenager the whole time.
Jessica explained: "At the time I hadn't yet got a part and was yet to even hear of the word Downton or film Misfits, so I just thought no-one is going to cast me as the lead in a film. So I thought the only way I could convince someone would be to not let them think I was anything other that character.
"So I just went in and just slouched in my chair and leant on the table, and pretended not to care. And it was only afterwards that our director took me out for a coffee and realised I wasn't her at all."
