Dr Who star in Belfast to shoot his new movie

Matt Smith stars as The Doctor

Travelling back in time is nothing new to Matt Smith.

But he’ll be leaving his Tardis behind on his latest mission when he revisits the decadent days of Berlin in the 1930s.

Matt will be arriving in Belfast in the next few days to shoot a new film, Christopher And His Kind, based on the life of the late gay author Christopher Isherwood.

Shooting gets under way in Belfast this weekend and it is understood Smith will be joining the cast after filming a guest appearance in the new series of The Sarah Jane Adventures in Cardiff.

Christopher And His Kind, based on Isherwood’s 1976 memoirs, also stars Lindsay Duncan, who Dr Who fans will remember teamed up with Smith’s predecessor David Tennent in the 2009 special The Waters Of Mars.

Smith plays Isherwood who escapes repressive English society and his suffocating relationship with his mother (Duncan) for the politically unsafe city of Berlin.

A request by the BBC to fly Nazi flags in the inner courtyard of Belfast’s City Hall was passed by the city council last week, despite protests from the DUP that the Jewish community might find it offensive.

This isn't a good time to make travel plans. Weather conditions and work responsibilities have a way of wreaking havoc with your schedule. Wait another few days before putting down a hefty deposit. Working behind the scenes will yield significant rewards. If someone asks you to serve as their assistant, go ahead and accept. The pay will be excellent and there will be a lot of fringe benefits, too. Don't talk about a neighbour's private life in mixed company.More
