Dracula voted top screen vampire

Dracula was memorably played by actor Christopher Lee in numerous Hammer films.

Fangs ain't what they used to be - Twilight may be a top box office draw but old timer Dracula has been voted the top screen vampire.

The Transylvanian count proved to be top of the popularity stakes, beating characters from TV shows such as Buffy The Vampire Slayer and Being Human.

Dracula beat the new blood to top the list in a poll commissioned by leading sci-fi and fantasy magazine SFX.

The fiendish bloodsucker was memorably played by actor Christopher Lee in numerous Hammer films and revived by Gary Oldman in the 1992 movie Bram Stoker's Dracula.

Second place went to Spike from the US TV series Buffy, while in third place was Angel from the same show.

More than 8,000 fans took part in the www.sfx.co.uk website survey as part of the magazine's 200th issue celebrations.

Robert Pattinson's Twilight character Edward Cullen failed to make the top ten and figures only at number 14.

He was even beaten by cartoon character Count Duckula which was placed in ninth position by voters.

Top ten favourite vampires of all time according to sfx.co.uk users are: 1. Dracula; 2. Spike (Buffy The Vampire Slayer); 3. Angel (Buffy The Vampire Slayer, Angel); 4. John Mitchell (Being Human); 5. Drusilla (Buffy The Vampire Slayer); 6. Eric Northman (True Blood); 7. Mick St John (Moonlight); 8. Selene (Underworld); 9. Count Duckula (Count Duckula); 10. Darla (Buffy The Vampire Slayer).
