Eccleston set to be Thor villain

Christopher Eccleston will play a villain in the Thor sequel

Christopher Eccleston is said to be in "final negotiations" to play the villain in comic book blockbuster Thor 2.

Thor: The Dark World is the sequel to last year's hit, directed by Kenneth Branagh and starring Australian actor Chris Hemsworth as the hammer-wielding god and Tom Hiddleston as his nemesis Loki.

Former Home And Away star Hemsworth will return as Thor in the sequel, directed by Game Of Thrones' Alan Taylor, alongside a cast reported to include Natalie Portman, Anthony Hopkins and Idris Elba.

Former Doctor Who star Eccleston is in talks to play the ruler of the Dark Elves of Svartalfheim in the fantasy action film, according to the Hollywood Reporter.

The Salford-born actor, who played Doctor Who in the 2005 BBC series, is no stranger to playing villains.

He was the bad guy in Danny Boyle's 28 Days Later, US science fiction show Heroes, and Hollywood action films GI Joe: The Rise Of Cobra and Gone In 60 Seconds.
