Efron confirmed for Parkland movie

Zac Efron has joined the cast of Parkland

Zac Efron is set to join Paul Giamatti and Billy Bob Thornton in political drama Parkland.

The Lucky One star and Oscar winner Marcia Gay Harden are the latest names to be added to the cast of Peter Landesman's directorial debut, reported Collider.

"Zac Efron continues to impress us with his recent shift into more dramatic roles which showcase his exceptional acting skills and Marcia Gay Harden is an unparalleled actress who gives tour de force performances in every film she appears," said producers Guy East and Nigel Sinclair.

"We look forward to seeing their combined talent in Peter Landesman's powerful and mesmerising story alongside the excellent cast already attached to this film."

Tom Hanks is one of the producers on Parkland, which is based on Vincent Bugliosi's book, Reclaiming History: The Assassination Of President John F Kennedy.

The film, which tells the real events of the president's assassination on November 22, 1963, is to be filmed in Austin, Texas and its release will be tied around the 50th anniversary of the assassination.

Zac, formerly of High School Musical fame, will next be seen in Lee Daniels' The Paperboy alongside Nicole Kidman and Matthew McConaughey. He is currently shooting romantic drama Are We Officially Dating in New York.
