Englert cooks up chemistry for film
Alice Englert has revealed how she bonded with Beautiful Creatures co-star Alden Ehrenreich - by watching TV and cooking.
The Australian actress, who portrays supernatural teen Caster Lena, had instant chemistry with the actor as soon as they met, but still indulged in some activities to build up their rapport.
"We spent the rest of the shoot watching Columbo. We did cooking and stuff - we cooked a dinner, and we did some really ugly painting," she said.
Alden - who plays human Ethan in Richard LaGravenese's big-screen adaptation of Kami Garcia and Margaret Stohl's first novel in the series - added: "From the minute they meet there's a spark. Lena's different from anyone Ethan has ever met, which is what everybody else is really adverse to, and exactly what he is attracted to.
"We got along pretty well from the get-go. We made a dinner in the beginning. The painting was a lot later, and we only did one painting. We just got along pretty early."
Alice, the daughter of Oscar-winning director Jane Campion, revealed she was attracted to the story.
"What really drew me to the film was the idea of these huge supernatural struggles between good and evil told through the context of very human feelings," she said.
Beautiful Creatures, which also stars Jeremy Irons, Viola Davis and Emma Thompson, is in cinemas now.
