Eoghan looks set to become bookies' favourite for X Factor
Monday, 17 November 2008
Northern Ireland’s X Factor hopeful Eoghan Quigg is now the second favourite to win the competition after he once again wowed the judges and the public during Saturday’s live performance.
The Dungiven schoolboy is fast becoming the most popular contestant on the show with the bookies saying he looks set to overtake current favourite Diana Vickers.
Diana’s fragile voice ensured another shaky performance on Saturday night and according to Ladbrokes, punters are not convinced she will last the pace.
Eoghan is currently 5/2 second favourite behind Diana whose odds are 6/4.
Spokesman for Ladbrokes Robin Hutchison said: “For two weeks running Diana has been either absent or average and punters are beginning to have their doubts.
“All the money overnight was for Eoghan who is improving week on week. He could be the X Factor's equivalent of Gareth Gates.”
The contestant who has attracted the least number of bets to date is Rachel Hylton, who is now out to 66/1 from 40/1.
The X Factor judges also seem to share the bookies’ optimism for Eoghan with all of them still predicting that he will make the final.
After his rendition of George Michael’s ‘One More Try’, Louis Walsh told him he was a “natural performer” with “great likeability.”
“This was a big task but you absolutely pulled it off. You are going to be in the final,” he added.
Dannii Minogue told Eoghan he was “such a sweet guy”, while Cheryl Cole said: “You are scaring me for the finals.”
The teenager’s mentor Simon Cowell added that he had delivered a “great performance” and that if he does not get into the final “it will be a miracle”.
A clearly delighted Eoghan told the audience that he was still having the time of his life.
“For a 16 year-old I never thought I would get here. I’m having the time of my life as everyone can see,” he said.
Father-of-three Daniel Evans was the latest contestant to be voted off The X Factor on Saturday. After the show the 38-year-old confessed his goal was to get into the final, but he never imagined winning the ITV talent show.
He said: “I couldn't honestly picture myself winning the show, and obviously now it's the case.
“Winning was never in my mind. I just dreamt of getting to the final. I was upsetting the odds every week by staying in. The public kept me there.
“I'm upset to be out. I was hoping to push on a little bit longer for us older people.
“To be honest, I didn't expect to get this far and every week when the public kept me in, it was the best feeling in the world. Thanks to the public I got this far.”

Let's not forget to congratulate the real winners of the 'X' factor. One - Simon Cowell, whose bank balance can barely contain theimoney this format produces, and of course, two, ITV who without the fervent support of all you kind folks at home, would not be getting such a huge rise in their income from each and every, very expensive vote!!

Not a big fan of the XFactor but have watched a few of Eoghan's performances. If Hugo Duncan who has been murdering songs for decades can have a successful career so can this youngster

good luck to them all but just because eoghan is from Northern Ireland wouldnt make me vote for him Tiffany! You vote for who you think does the best job not because he's local! I do hope you always buy records he brings out and always support his career because you know, you should support yr own!

if eoghan wins he will become the next steve brookstein, leon jackson, michelle mc manus etc. he will be left out to dry once the initial money making period is over! he just doesnt have the talent or personality to last!
