Fassbender 'for lighthouse role'

Michael Fassbender is in line to play a lighthouse keeper in The Light Between Oceans.

The drama is being directed by Derek Cianfrance and there was speculation that Ryan Gosling would star, following his work with the filmmaker on Blue Valentine and The Place Beyond The Pines.

But The Wrap reports Irish hunk Michael is in talks to star.

Derek will direct the movie for DreamWorks.

The film is based on the international bestseller from first-time novelist ML Stedman, whose book has been translated into nearly 30 languages since it was published in the US in July 2012.

Set in the years after the First World War, on a remote island in Australia, the story follows a lighthouse keeper and his wife who find a boat washed ashore with a dead man and a baby inside. When they decide to raise the child as their own, the consequences turn out to be devastating.

David Heyman, of Gravity and Harry Potter fame, will produce.

Michael - who can soon be seen as a young Magneto in X-Men: Days Of Future Past - will apparently shoot the movie before he begins work on the sequel to Ridley Scott's Prometheus.
