Michael Fassbender is said to be in talks to appear in Brendan Gleeson's At Swim-Two-Birds.
The X-Men: First Class star's name was dropped by Brendan at the Galway Film Fleadh, reported Screen Daily.
If the rumour is correct, Michael would be joining Gabriel Byrne, Colin Farrell, Cillian Murphy and Brendan's son, Harry Potter actor Domhnall, in the period drama.
Brendan, who will direct and play the role of the uncle in his own adaptation of Flann O'Brien's acclaimed 1939 novel, has said that the film is his passion project, having acquired the rights to it seven years ago.
The movie would be his directorial debut.
"It's a bit nervewracking. We've had a lot of support from different actors and there's great enthusiasm for it, so I just want to do it now - I'm fed up of messing around," he has said.
The Irish actor has secured funding and is still seeking some private investment, before production can be expected to start in 2012.
