Michael Fassbender is set to star opposite Noomi Rapace in Ridley Scott's Prometheus.
The German-born Irish star of Inglourious Basterds fame was offered the role of an android when it was referred to as the Alien prequel, but has been confirmed to take the part, said The Hollywood Reporter.
Much of the storyline is shrouded in secrecy, but the acclaimed director has said the movie, which has shifted to a later release date of June 2012, will have "Alien DNA".
Since appearing in Steve McQueen's Hunger and Quentin Tarantino's Second World War film, Michael has had several high-profile roles including portraying the young Magneto in X-Men: First Class, psychiatrist Carl Jung in David Cronenberg's A Dangerous Method and Edward Rochester in Cary Fukunaga's Jane Eyre alongside Dame Judi Dench.
