Fey planning Mean Girls musical

Tina Fey penned the original Mean Girls film

Tina Fey has confirmed a Mean Girls musical is in the pipeline.

The 30 Rock star wrote the hit 2004 teen comedy starring Lindsay Lohan, Rachel McAdams and Amanda Seyfried and revealed to E! News that she is in the process of adapting the film into a musical stage show.

Tina revealed: "We want to. I would love to. I'm trying to develop it with my husband, who does all the music for 30 Rock and I think Paramount's onboard."

And after seeing Mariah Carey and Nicki Minaj's recent argument on American Idol about Mean Girls, Tina is hoping to persuade Mariah to appear in the show.

"I loved it!" Tina said of the fight. "And I think Mariah won. Like, Mariah seemed to really know all the characters."

During Mariah's spat with Nicki she was adamant that she wasn't like bully Regina George, played by Rachel in the film, but Tina suggested she could star as Regina's ditzy and outrageous mother Mrs George, played by Parks And Recreation star Amy Poehler.

Tina said: "Maybe she can play Amy Poehler's part in the musical."
