Fifty Shades star Jamie Dornan set to star opposite Cillian Murphy in WWII drama Anthropoid
Fifty Shades of Grey star Jamie Dornan is set to take on a role opposite Peaky Blinders star Cillian Murphy in WWII film Anthropoid.
Holywood born Dornan will play a Czechoslovakian soldier who takes part in an assassination attempt on SS officer Reinhard Heydrick - known as 'The Butcher of Prague'.
The film directed by Sean Ellis is based on the true story of Operation Anthropoid. In 1942 two Czech soldiers trained by British forces, parachuted in to Nazi-occupied Prague and attacked Heydrich.
He died from his injuries several days later which prompted the SS to massacre thousands of civilians.
Filming is reported to start in July with Cillian Murphy starring alongside Dornan.
Murphy is an Irish actor of stage and screen who has starred in major films such as Batman Begins and Inception.
Director Sean Ellis said: “I feel incredibly proud to bring the story of Anthropoid to the big screen … In the Czech Republic, it is a story of great national pride, and it’s time to tell the world that story.”
Before heading to Prague, Dornan will shoot Jadotville, in which he plays UN commander Patrick Quinlan caught in a siege in 1961 in the Congo. Netflix has acquired the rights and will screen the film next year.
Dornan shot to fame this year with his starring role as Christian Grey in the big screen adaptation of EL James's hit erotic novel.
