First peek at JK Rowling's new film starring Eddie Redmayne
The first trailer for Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them has given fans a glimpse at a previously unseen part of JK Rowling's wizarding world.
Starring Oscar winner Eddie Redmayne as magizoologist Newt Scamander, audiences are given their first look at New York in 1926 where the scientist has accidentally unleashed a series of magical creatures on the city.
"Yesterday a wizard entered New York with a case, a case full of magical creatures - and unfortunately some have escaped," says Tina, played by Katherine Waterston, to an assembly headed by Seraphina (Carmen Ejogo).
The trailer, which was released by Warner Brothers today, then shows Redmayne in his bedroom opening the case to reveal the sounds of roaring animals inside.
"It was open?" Tina asks him.
"Just a smidge," he replies.
Dressed in a blue suit, Redmaybe can also be seen on the streets of the city casting a spell, while another shot shows another suited figure standing in the blasted-out ruins of Scamander's bedroom.
The synopsis for the film gives us more details as to how the escape may have occurred.
Scamander has just completed a global excursion to find and document an extraordinary array of magical creatu res when he arrives in New York for a brief stopover. But the appearance a Non-Maj, the American term for muggle, named Jacob, a misplaced magical case, and the escape of some of Scamander's beasts threatens both the wizarding and non-wizarding worlds.
The film marks the screen-writing debut of Harry Potter author JK Rowling, whose script was inspired by the Hogwarts textbook of the same name she wrote in 2001.
It also stars Colin Farrell, Ron Perlman, Dan Fogler, Alison Sudol, Ezra Miller, Samantha Morton, Gemma Chan, and Jon Voight.
Fantastic Beast and Where to Find Them is scheduled for release on November 18, 2016.
