Flemyng: I'm directing first film

Jason Flemyng has a production company with Dexter Fletcher

Jason Flemyng has revealed he is to make his directorial debut.

The Welcome To The Punch actor is to sit in the director's chair for the first time for a movie called Eat Local. Dexter Fletcher had been set to direct, but decided to do another film instead.

"Dexter Fletcher and I have set up a production company to do stuff together. He was meant to direct this film and I was due to produce, but now we've been left with a window for a director because Dex is too busy directing another film. And I thought, well I'll do it then," Jason said.

The 46-year-old and new dad admitted he is enjoying being on the other side of the camera.

"I'm loving it. My dad was a director so it feels like destiny decreed that I get behind the camera at some point," he said.

The film is said to be in a similar vein to Sidney Lumet's drama 12 Angry Men.

"We are trying to get a film called Eat Local - it's like 12 Angry Men but we had to cut it to Seven Angry Men because we're on a budget," he added.

The pair have recently worked together on the Proclaimers movie Sunshine On Leith, which stars Peter Mullan and Jane Horrocks.

"We just did Sunshine On Leith together, which is amazing. He's done a brilliant job on it," revealed Jason.

:: Welcome To The Punch opens in cinemas on March 15.
