Forest Whitaker for Black Nativity

Forest Whitaker will star in upcoming musical film Black Nativity

Forest Whitaker has joined the cast of new film Black Nativity.

The actor - who won an Oscar for his portrayal of Idi Amin in The Last King Of Scotland - will take on the lead role in the musical, reports Blackfilm.com.

Fellow Academy Award winner Jennifer Hudson and Waiting To Exhale actress Angela Bassett have also joined the cast of Kasi Lemmons' movie.

The film follows a teenage boy who learns the importance of family and faith after being sent to spend Christmas with his estranged grandparents, played by Forest and Angela.

Dreamgirls actress Jennifer will play the boy's mother.

Production on Black Nativity is due to start in January.
