Denzel Washington may be reunited with his Training Day director Antoine Fuqua on The Equalizer.

The 47-year-old Olympus Has Fallen filmmaker is said to be in "early talks" to direct the thriller, which is based on the 1980s crime TV show, reported Deadline.

Denzel is already attached to star as Robert McCall, a former covert operations officer who dedicates his life to helping people in trouble, originally played by Edward Woodward.

The film adaptation sees McCall living the quiet life working at a Home Depot, when he somehow becomes embroiled with the Russian mob.

Rupert Wyatt, who directed Rise Of The Planet Of The Apes, and Drive filmmaker Nicolas Winding Refn were previously due to sit in the director's chair for The Equalizer.

Denzel, who received an Oscar nomination for his role in Flight, and Antoine previously collaborated on Training Day, which won the star the Academy Award for best actor.
