Gadon confirms Spider-Man role

Sarah Gadon has confirmed she is joining the cast of The Amazing Spider-Man 2.

But the Cosmopolis star rubbished rumours she is replacing Shailene Woodley as Mary Jane Watson. It was revealed earlier this month that Shailene has been cut from the reboot of the superhero sequel, after director Marc Webb decided not to introduce Mary Jane until the third instalment.

Sarah took to Twitter to pour water on rumours she was taking on the role, after she was signed up to the production.

She tweeted: "To all those a twitter, I will not be playing MJ in Spider-Man. I have a role in the film, but it is not that one."

Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone will return as Peter Parker, aka Spider-Man, and his high school girlfriend Gwen Stacy.

The Amazing Spider-Man 2, due to open in cinemas in May 2014, sees Jamie Foxx join the cast as super-villain Electro and Paul Giamatti as fellow rival Rhino.

Felicity Jones recently confirmed she is also in the film, as a baddie, but refused to reveal any more.
