Gael to play boxing legend Duran
Gael Garcia Bernal is to star as five-time world boxing champ Roberto Duran in Hands Of Stone.
Al Pacino is eyeing up the role of trainer Ray Arcel in the forthcoming biopic, reported Variety.
Producer Ben Silverman said: "I'm thrilled that Gael Garcia Bernal is to play legendary fighter Roberto Duran - this is a dynamic story that will have an impact."
Roberto, nicknamed "Manos de Piedra" (Hands of Stone), is regarded as one of the greatest boxers of all time. He made his professional debut in 1968 as a 16-year-old and retired in 2002 at age 50.
He shocked the world in the 'No Mas' fight, the November 1980 rematch with Sugar Ray Leonard for the welterweight championship, when he forfeited at the end of the eighth round, telling the referee "No mas" (No more).
Writer-director Jonathan Jakubowicz said: "The infamous No Mas fight is the biggest enigma in the history of boxing. This movie will answer that enigma."
Hands Of Stone will shoot mainly in English in Panama, where the boxing legend was born, and New York next spring.
