Gervasi: Hitchcock more complex

Director Sacha Gervasi says Alfred Hitchcock was a complex character

The director of the new Hitchcock movie has defended the legendary filmmaker after a rival drama portrayed him as a bully.

Sacha Gervasi's film Hitchcock stars Dame Helen Mirren, Sir Anthony Hopkins and Scarlett Johansson and will be released in UK cinemas next month.

It follows BBC drama The Girl featuring Toby Jones as the manipulative director and Sienna Miller as Tibbi Hedren, who starred in The Birds.

Sacha told The Independent: "He was a brilliant, obsessed director and he would push people. I don't think he was a sadistic monster."

He branded The Girl "a little bit of an oversimplification" adding: "It seems a rare one-note portrayal of a man who was a little more complex than that.

"A lot of people, who were there, do not recognise this portrayal of him as this monster."

Gemini:

Someone will steal credit for your work, which is maddening. Drawing attention to the problem will only make you look petty. You're better off accepting the situation with quiet dignity and grace. Move on to the next assignment, but make sure to sign your name to every piece of work that is submitted. Tell your boss what you are doing on a regular basis. You'll sound like a pest, but at least it's better than getting stabbed in the back.More
