Goode: I needed to learn the piano

Matthew Goode had to work on his piano skills for his new film

Matthew Goode has revealed that he needed a crash course in piano-playing for Stoker.

In one beautifully shot scene in Park Chan-Wook's tense thriller, uncle Charlie (played by Matthew) and his niece India (Mia Wasikowska) play the piano together.

The 34-year-old said: "That was one long scene. I hadn't played the piano since I was about 11, that's 20-odd years ago so I did need some training.

"I used to play Bach's Minuet In G Major for grade three, so you don't want to start straight back with a Philip Glass arpeggio piece. Mia was probably a little bit better than I was. It was good fun. I haven't played the piano since then."

Mia added: "I took a crash course a couple of months before we started filming. I did two months of intensive lessons, which was really fun and I really loved it. It's one of the perks of the job."

:: Stoker is in cinemas now.

Gemini:

You never do anything in moderation. Attend every fun party, accept every juicy offer and try all the delectable treats spread before you. Avoid unpleasant people and activities like the plague. This should be a time of enjoyment. Leave your list of chores at home. You can always attend to these jobs at another time. If you have a chance to show your creative work to a publisher, manager or agent, go ahead. This is also a great opportunity to go on job interviews, auditions and first dates.More
