Gosling advised over directing

Actor Ryan Gosling is going behind the camera

Ryan Gosling has revealed that he has been warned against a move into directing.

The Gangster Squad star is due to make his directorial debut with How To Catch A Monster, which starts shooting in May, but has been told by other filmmakers that he is "stupid" for taking the step.

"Every director that I know, they think I'm so stupid and they just keep saying 'It's a dog life. Why would you do this?'," he said.

"'Actors move from mountain top to mountain top', that's what a director told me the other day, whereas with directors, it's a dog's life."

The fantasy film, which has been written by the 32-year-old, will feature his Drive co-star Christina Hendricks as a mother-of-two who enters a dark underworld. Australian actor Ben Mendelsohn is to play an as yet unspecified role in the film.

Ryan - who next stars in Derek Cianfrance's drama The Place Beyond The Pines and Nicolas Winding Refn's revenge drama Only God Forgives - reckons having a strong cast will help to improve his confidence as a first-time director.

"I feel that as the cast grows, the more confident I am because I know how much you can depend on your actors if you have great ones," he said.

If you're not able to provide them with the luxuries they crave, there will be problems. Then again, you have the potential for being a good provider, so all may be well.More
