Ryan Gosling had the "best time of his life" in Drive.
The Blue Valentine star had to do a lot of car stunts to play a Hollywood stuntman in Nicolas Winding Refn's big-screen adaptation of James Sallis' novel, alongside Carey Mulligan .
"I had to do a bit of drifting, but mostly 360s and 180s (turns) and precision driving - I spent a couple of months on a huge parking lot in a Camaro or a Mustang and had to just run it. It was the best time of my life," he said.
"I get to do a lot of car stunts. He's a good driver so he doesn't roll his car."
Ryan, who received a Golden Globe nomination for his portrayal in Blue Valentine, is proud of his efforts.
"It's a very odd film but I feel like it's the closest thing to a superhero that I have come. He's kind of a self-appointed superhero," he continued.
"I think Nicolas is a very special filmmaker and it [Drive] has ended up being a cross between Blue Velvet and Purple Rain. Which I'm excited about, and hope everyone else is as excited too."
Drive will be released on September 23.
