Grease to be live musical on Fox TV

Grease is going to be shown as a live TV musical.

Fox has announced that next year it is planning to broadcast a three-hour live version of the hit musical film that will feature "a young ensemble cast" which has yet to be named.

It follows fellow US broadcaster NBC, which got a ratings boost last December with its live broadcast of The Sound Of Music starring Carrie Underwood and is working on a live production of Peter Pan for next December.

Grease features familiar songs Summer Nights, Greased Lightnin', We Go Together and You're the One That I Want, and the original film from 1978 starred John Travolta and Olivia Newton-John.

Its sequel, Grease 2, was released in 1982 and starred Michelle Pfeiffer and Maxwell Caulfield.

The live version will be a production from Paramount Television.
