Gun scene 'cut' from Reacher promo

Tom Cruise

Movie bosses have reportedly made changes to their marketing materials for new action movie Jack Reacher in the wake of the Newtown, Connecticut shootings.

Tom Cruise plays a tough former military cop who sets out to prove an alleged sniper was framed in the film, which opens in cinemas on Friday.

A source told the Hollywood Reporter that a scene which sees Tom's character firing off a semi-automatic weapon is being removed from promotional material.

Meanwhile the Los Angeles premiere of Quentin Tarantino's ultra-violent Django Unchained has been postponed because of the school tragedy, in which a gunman killed his mother and then went to an elementary school, where he killed six adults and 20 children before committing suicide.

The Pittsburgh premiere of Jack Reacher was also rescheduled after the massacre on Friday.
