Gyllenhaal: Mum worried about diet

Jake Gyllenhaal has revealed his mother worried about his dramatic weight loss for new crime drama Nightcrawler.

The 33-year-old actor shed 30 pounds to achieve the startling, drawn appearance he has as an underground crime-scene videographer in the movie. But while the film has been winning rave reviews, according to E! News, Jake revealed at the Toronto International Film Festival that it provoked a different reaction in his mum.

Jake said: " I'd say my mother was worried. I would say she just wanted me to be careful. But she also knew and knows how seriously I take what I do and she respects that.

"She knows that I'm a big boy and I could handle myself and that I would stay within the realm of being safe, but yes, she worried," he continued. "She'd be like, 'You're cranky - eat something'."

Jake's co-star Rene Russo, whose husband Dan Gilroy wrote and directed the movie, was also shocked by Jake's appearance.

"It's incredible what he put his body through," she said. "I actually was worried."
