Gyllenhaal to go Way Way Back

Jake Gyllenhaal is being linked to The Way, Way Back

Jake Gyllenhaal is in talks to star in drama The Way, Way Back.

The Source Code actor is said to have been offered the lead role in the long-developing family tale, which is set over the course of one summer and focuses on a teenage boy who forms a friendship which gives him the strength to stand up to his bullying stepfather and reconnect with his mother, reported Variety.

Jake, 30, is tipped to portray the stepdad.

The Descendants writers Nat Faxon and Jim Rash penned the script in 2007 and will also direct the film, after passing through the hands of directors such as Alexander Payne and Shawn Levy.

There's no word as to when shooting will begin, but Nat and Jim are no strangers to patience. The duo waited five years before The Descendants - starring George Clooney - made it to the big screen since it began development in 2006.
