Hamm and girlfriend's bonding film

Real life couple Jon Hamm and Jennifer Westfeldt made Friends With Kids together

Jon Hamm's partner Jennifer Westfeldt revealed the couple bonded over the stresses of making independent movie Friends With Kids together.

The Mad Men heartthrob stars alongside Jennifer in the film, which she wrote and directed, and the couple of 14 years both produced the film - a comedy drama about a woman who feels left out when all her friends start having kids.

Jennifer said of working with boyfriend Jon: "I guess everyone's different. Some people would say they could never work with their partner but we found it incredibly bonding. Independent films are so stressful, it feels like pushing a boulder up a hill, so it felt great to have a partner in crime."

Jon helped boost the indie comedy drama by signing up his Bridesmaids co-stars Chris O'Dowd, Kristen Wiig and Maya Rudolph, along with Megan Fox, to appear in it with him and Jennifer.

He revealed: "I said, 'Look guys, I know you're nervous about these actors who no one really knows, but there's this movie coming out that I also happen to be in that's going to be huge, and so trust me.'

"We didn't want the marketing to be like, 'Look it's Bridesmaids 2!' because tonally the movie is completely different, but it was a risk we took and we ended up with these fantastic actors."

:: Friends With Kids is released in cinemas on Friday, June 29
