Harris: Elba would be great as Bond

Naomie Harris plays Bond girl Miss Moneypenny in Skyfall

Idris Elba would be "amazing" as the first black James Bond, Naomie Harris has said.

The Luther star has been hotly tipped to take over from Daniel Craig as the next secret agent once he steps down from the role, and the Skyfall actress said the casting would get her thumbs up.

"Idris as Bond... yeah! I think that would be amazing, but we have the incredible Daniel, and many more to come," she said.

Naomie, who plays Eve Moneypenny in Sam Mendes' Skyfall, also said she would be happy for either Sam or Danny Boyle to sit in the director's chair for the next Bond film.

"I would love that. I've worked with Danny twice now. Absolutely love Danny, but I'd also like to see what Sam does back at the helm as well. I think, you know, he did such an incredible job with Skyfall so we will have to make an incredible follow up," she continued.

The actress would like to meet Samantha Bond, who formerly played Miss Moneypenny.

"I've met her several times and I should (get some advice) so next time I'm going to," she said.

"I think it's a very empowering role. I think it's really fantastic that that is what Barbara (Broccoli) and Michael (Wilson), the writers and Sam really wanted. At the final audition I had with them, they said, 'We want women to look up to her and to respect her and be inspired by her'.

"So that kind of challenge is something as an actress you desperately want, and you rarely get that kind of opportunity."

:: Skyfall is out now on Blu-ray and DVD from MGM and Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment.
